"Hooray for Mommy": resenha literária da história do amor de uma menina pela sua mãe
"Hooray for Mommy", de Beatrice Masini, com ilustrações de Guilia Zaffaroni, foi-me cedido pela Netgalley e pelo editor, para que eu fizesse uma apreciação honesta deste livro. Não há de momento edição em português.
Publiquei a minha opinião no Goodreads com 3/5 estrelas e a seguinte "review":
A book about a small daughter's love for her mother
This story is told from a little girl perspective. And she has this strange idea of what a perfect mother should be:
"Their nails are painted, they wear make-up, and their hair is dyed. They look lovely. But they are like my friend Elisa’s dolls: if you touch them, they might break".
"Perfect moms have perfect little girls".
"Perfect moms sit on the benches in the park".
This little girl's mother is just the opposite of this preconceived idea of what mother should be like. And that's what she loves about her mom. Her mother is fun and playful, likes to wear shiny clothes, walk in the rain and play with her in the park, She also likes to play dress up, go shopping for clothes or just sit with her little girl reading in silence... She's sometimes disorganized: forgets shopping lists and then groceries or wakes up late for work and take her little girl to school and they have to rush. And for this little girl, that's why her mother is perfect and she would like to be like her.
This family seems to have only a single working mother and a small daughter. There is no mention of a father or siblings: "My mommy has me and I have her, and we are happy with the way we are".
The illustrations are full-page, colorful and fun. There are children's activities in the end.
The mother in this book seems the portrait of a particular person, not mothers in general. Not perfect, as all others.
